"Nightlight" Set to Bring Nightmares to Your Own Home on DVD

Lionsgate Home Entertainment recently released information for the upcoming DVD Release of "Nightlight". The film stars  Shelby Young (The Social Network, Wild Child), Chloe Bridges (Family Weekend, TV’s “The Carrie Diaries”) and Carter Jenkins (Valentine’s Day, TV’s “The Following”).

Special features on the DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes and an alternate ending with optional commentary. A feature-length audio commentary with the writers/directors and producer.

Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (The Bride Wore Blood), the Nightlight DVD and Digital HD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes and an alternate ending with optional commentary. Film Review: Afterimages

Horror Anthologies used to feel special. With films like “Tales from the Darkside: The Movie” and “Trick r Treat”, it had a special feel to it. These days, the horror subgenre doesn’t have that special feel it once did. In last year, I’ve watched seven of these including “The ABC’s of Death 2” and V/H/S Viral” most recently. This leads me to my review of another horror anthology film “Afterimages”. Yes, it’s another horror anthology, but the only difference is that this film is written and directed by one director (Tony Kern).

The film is a collection of five films (Ghost Pool Leg, Xiao Bao Bao, Skin Deep, Rekindling and Burnt Offerings) that centers on a group of student. They find out when they burn a camera for the dead, a mysterious film comes from the ashes containing something horrifying. But what they don’t know is the more they continue to do it, the more dangerous it become for them as you don’t mess with the dead.

It’s amazing that I don’t get tired of these horror anthologies even though I was starting to get fatigued of watching these films. I still wanted to see this one after seeing the film’s trailer and seeing the nice poster art for this film. I was surprised that I wasn’t that tired of watching this horror subgenre after seeing “Afterimages”, as this is one terrorizing film.

Most of that has to do with the film’s writer/director Tony Kern. His direction was very good. One of the things that I liked about it, he does a very good job making sure each of the shorts had a different feel and tone to it. Whether it’s the way that he approached it in his screenplay to how he makes each of the short look on screen, everything had a dark and frightening tone to it. This is what made this film very good from the first story to the end of the wrap around segment. The other thing that he does well is directing his cast. Kern does a very good job making sure the acting is good enough to make some of the film’s scary scenes feel frightening. This really helped me enjoy this film, as I was interested in what was happening and it provided scares.

All of the five stories in the film was good as I have nothing bad to say about these. There were two that stands out from the rest. The first one that stands out was “Skin Deep” What made this short good was the fact that the cast in the short had chemistry and the story worked. It helped build the tension that was needed to make this work. Considering the whole short takes place in an elevator, it’s something that has to happen for it to be good and intense. Thankfully, it was as this was a very good short that made me wished this was a standalone film. The other one that I liked a lot was the film after that “Rekindling”. Tony Kern does a very good job with the way that he directs this short. From the movement of the ghost to how the main character is developed, it provided some very good scares and it kept my interest through. It was the most terrifying short out of the bunch.

“Afterimages” is one of the better entertaining horror anthologies that successfully keep you on the edge of your seat. With its entertaining stories and scares,” Afterimages” is a horror anthology film that will haunt you and make you think twice about messing with the dead.

Plot Synopsis:

Samantha/Nurse Nasty (Jamie Elizabeth Sampson) is frustrated by how the show is being run by its womanizing director (Mike Donis) and its drunk and crazy host Dr. Nasty (Brian Carleton).

Chilling Stills for Wild Eye Releasing's "Jonah Lives"

Wild Eye Releasing recently send the horror chamber some stills for their upcoming release of "Johan Lives". The film stars B-movie legend Brinke Stevens (Nightmare Sisters, Teenage Exorcist, Bad Girls from Mars), Jocelyn Padilla and Ryan Boudreau.

"Jonah Lives" hits retail on April 21st.

Plot Synopsis:

A group of suburban teenagers find themselves embroiled in a story of revenge from beyond the grave. Foolishly playing with a ouija board, they contact the spirit of a murdered man. Jonah rips his way out of the earth in the form of a murderous zombie, intent on avenging his untimely demise. Before he can rip out the heart of his killer, he must claim the lives of the teens that disturbed his rest.

Film Review: "Bordello Death Tales"

Anthology films seem to be all the rage these days in the horror genre. There been a lot these films in the last five years. From known films such as V/H/S, “The ABC’s of Death to lesser known ones such as “Horror Independent 8” to “Faces of Scholck” to most recently “Afterimages”, which my review will be up next week. Add “Bordello Death House” to that list.

“Bordello Death Tales” brings together filmmakers Jim Eaves (“The Witches Hammer,” “Bane”), Pat Higgins (“KillerKiller,” “Hellbride,” “TrashHouse”) and Alan Ronald (“Jesus vs the Messiah”) bring you three killer tales, “Stitchgirl”, “The Ripper”, and “Vice Day” Each of them are told from the closed bedroom doors of the mysterious Madame Raven’s bordello. The first film in this anthology was “The Ripper”. This was the best of the three. One of thing that I liked about was the fact the film had a creepy feel though out. Director Jim Eves does a very good job making sure that his short looked good and having a gory feel to it. It helped make this interesting and entertaining. The screenplay for the short was also good. I liked how he does a good job making sure that he gives you an uneasy feel to the scenes. This helped gave the film its identity and separate it from the rest of the film.

The second film in this anthology was Alan Roland’s “Stichgirl”.This was the most surreal of the bunch but was also entertaining. One of things that I liked about it was the choice of Roland to use black and white for most of the short. It gave the film a gothic tone to it and the title character. But the best thing about this short was the way that Roland directs the film’s dream sequence in color. It had the special and surreal feel to it as this is the only time that you see the film’s main character in color. It made everything feel bizarre and entertaining at the same time.

The final short in this film is Pat Higgins’ “Vice Day”. This may have been the weakest of the film in terms of action but I thought it was good. The main reason for that was the fact that it focuses on the two main characters of the short. He does a good job developing them through the conversation that the characters had for most of this. If didn’t do that and rush the action, this would’ve been a short that I would’ve been complaining. Instead, I was interested in the characters and the story.

The only problem that I had was the fact that the film felt like it had no wrap around segment. It would’ve been nice to see a story to connect all these stories, but at least you have the bordello front and center for each of the stories to let you know that they connected to the bordello. So, they get a pass for this complaint.

“Bordello Death Tales” is worth checking out, if you’re into horror that is surreal and out of control horror.

Plot Synopsis:

Ten women find themselves in a vacant mansion on Spektor Island in December, 1972. Each believes she's traveled to the house on business, but they all agree that something seems strange. For one thing, the entire house is full of pictures and statues of pigs.

The women all come from drastically different walks of life. None of them would have chosen to spend the night together in such an eerie place, but the last ferry for the mainland has just left, and a terrible storm is rolling in. Trying to make the best of an unpleasant situation, they raid the mansion's wine cellar and throw a party. As the night creeps on, however, it becomes clear that someone--or something--has arranged to get them in the house. It's not long before someone mentions that Spektor Island is supposed to be haunted. Of course, no one in the house believes in ghosts.

At least, not until the first murder.

What do an actress, a religious zealot, a renegade, a coed, a model, a singer, a medium, a real-estate investor, a historian, and a doctor have in common? None of them is who they seem. Yet, the fate of the entire world may rest in their hands.

Award-Winning Local Film Released Worldwide via the Web

The independent feature film “CREEPER”, awarded Best Film at the 2014 Killer Valley Horror Film Festival, has just been released worldwide via the Internet for viewers to stream and download directly from the filmmakers.

“Among the lights and sounds of the city a predator roams night clubs and bars searching for victims for his sexually twisted fantasies. Even people with normal everyday jobs have their secrets that they hide from the rest of the world.”

The film is written & directed by Ron Huffstutter, graduate of Southern Oregon University’s film program. It is the first release from Tunnel 13 Films.

The movie stars Levi Anderson, Chloe Rosenthal, Kurk Kasparian, and Bloody F Mess.

The 50-minute film is aimed at a mature audience due to language, violence and brief nudity.

Shooting began in late 2013, and production was limited primarily to weekends due to the schedule of the cast and crew. Principal photography was completed in 2013 and post-production was finished just days before the entry deadline for the film’s first film festival submission in April of 2014.

In addition to taking home the “Best Film” award at the Killer Valley Horror Film Festival in 2014, the film also garnered “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” awards for Levi Anderson and Chloe Rosenthal at the same festival. “CREEPER” was also an Official Selection at the Drunken Zombie Film Festival before being released online.

Tunnel 13 Films, the production company behind “CREEPER”, is trying to build their audience from the ground up, by offering this film online for free to anyone that watches it on the Official Website, or viewers can pay $3 to download the full film and watch on any device from anywhere they choose. The company plans to release all their films this way, as well as offering them direct to download from digital distributors who specialize in independent films, such as IndieReign, VHX, and Fandor. All other distributors will have a download charge, but the filmmakers plan to always allow free viewing of all their films via the official Tunnel 13 website.
