Escape From Jesus Island returns on 6/6/16

The Apocalyptic horror comic, Escape From Jesus Island, returns with its forth installment, “What Lies Beneath,” on June 6.

The series, endorsed by horror legend Clive Barker, follows a botched attempt to clone the savior that inadvertently unleashes the Antichrist and hordes of cannibalistic mutant freaks. When the Vatican Black Ops arrive to try to steal the reborn Christ for themselves, all hell breaks loose.

“From the start, bringing our fans into the story has been a big priority for us,” said Escape From Jesus Island writer Shawn French. “And I mean that literally. The majority of the characters in our comic are modeled after our earliest fans and Kickstarter backers. In Episode 4 alone, 29 fans make an appearance.”

For each cameo, fans send artist Mortimer Glum reference photos in various angles and expressions, which he uses to create their comic book counterpart. The 32-page Episode 4 features 30 pages of panel artwork, which the creators believe is one of the things that sets them apart from the majors. “While most comics seem focused on padding issues so they deliver the least amount of content possible, we do it all wrong,” French said. “Our focus is always on how much story we can cram into each issue… and Episode 4 is packed cover to cover.”

The ongoing comic book series was originally launched via Kickstarter and will be returning there in June for a new campaign to print a trade paperback of Episodes 1-4. There will be more opportunities for backers to be immortalized in print, including a chance to join the ongoing cast as one of the Antichrist’s most trusted Apostles.

Escape From Jesus Island unveils blood-splattered Geeky Variant cover for #3

The horror comic Escape From Jesus Island has unveiled a gory new variant cover for its third issue, due out in June. The Geeky Variant cover will be available exclusively through Geeky Comics at conventions across the UK and at select retailers in the US.

In Second Son, the third installment of the Jesus-cloning horror series, the Vatican Black Ops have landed at the Malsum Island Research Facility with orders to steal the reborn Christ. To achieve their mission, they’ll have to contend with the full might of pharmaceutical titan ReGen Corp and the Antichrist’s mutant horde.

The variant cover is the result of a new partnership between US-based Wisdumb Productions and Geeky Comics in the UK.

“Geeky Comics has an established fan base that love horror so Escape from Jesus Island fits well with our readers,” said Geeky president Victor Wright. “Its gorgeous, bloody style attracts new eyes every show we attend. Just the title freaks people out, once they know the storyline and see Mortimer Glum's artwork it’s a no brainer. We can't wait to show people issue #3 with our gorgeous exclusive cover!”

“Geeky has been selling our first two issues at UK conventions as fast as I can ship them, so we’re psyched to give them a kickass cover all their own for Episode 3,” said EFJI writer Shawn French. “Artist Mortimer Glum went all kinds of crazy on this variant artwork and it’ll be fun watching people’s reactions.”

The controversial series is also being adapted into a video game by veteran designer Eric Pavone (Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Army of Two). The dungeon crawler will serve as a prequel to the comics and is a twisted coming of age story about a young Antichrist and his cannibalistic mutant horde.

“Escape From Jesus Island” unveils cover for Episode 3

Fans of the religious horror comic book series, “Escape From Jesus Island,” received a special Easter treat with the release of Mortimer Glum’s main cover art for Episode 3, due out in May.

The series, launched via Kickstarter and endorsed by horror legend Clive Barker, tells the tale of an ill-fated attempt to clone Jesus that unleashes the Antichrist and sets into motion the End Times.

“Easter seemed like the perfect time to unveil our main cover for EFJI#3,” said series writer Shawn French. “As with previous issues, we’ll also have a few limited-edition variant covers. Details are coming soon on those.”

13-year-old Pennsylvanian Aidan Dollak joins a half-dozen fans and Kickstarter backers who will appear as mutants in the coming issue. “Including our most passionate fans in the story was a big part of the plan from the start,” French said. “It’s important to us that the people who helped us get here are properly immortalized in our pages… generally by being torn apart in horrible fashion.”

The comic is currently being adapted into a video game by veteran designer Eric Pavone (“Deus Ex: Human Revolution,” “Army of Two,” “Spider-Man 2: The Movie”). The old-school dungeon crawler will be released on Windows and serves as a prequel to the comics, allowing players to control a teenage Antichrist and three custom-made mutant freaks on a quest to conquer Malsum Island and release the clones.
