German Splatter Master Andreas Schnaas Uncut Version of "Anthropophagous 2000" Makes DVD Debut

Massacre Video recently released information for their upcoming DVD release on Andreas Schnaas' "Anthropophagous 2000". The film stars Andre Sobottka, Achim Kohlhase and Maja Carstens.

Special features on the DVD include English Subtitles, Rare Deleted Scenes, Trailers for Massacre Video releases, Image Gallery including Stills, Original Storyboards and more.

"Anthropophagous 2000" hits retail on June 9th.

Plot Synopsis:

Nikos and his family are trapped during a heavy storm in a boat, leading to the unfortunate death of their daughter Vicky. Nikos becomes mad with the desire to survive, and he begins to kill and eat his own wife. Nikos manages to reach the shore of a small island, but his appetite for human flesh has consumed him. A group of young people on vacation have an unfortunate meeting with Niko. Will these youngsters make it out alive?

Black Mask Studios Announces Reprint of Issue #1 of "Mayday"

Black Mask Studios recently send us over NSFW preview panels and information about the reprint of issue #1 of "Mayday". The first issue sold out and it was recently announced that Tim Kring's (HEROES) Imperative Entertainment has plans to develop "Mayday" for TV.

"Mayday" Issue #1 reprint is due out on June 3rd along with Issue #2 of the comic.

A washed-up, drug-addicted screenwriter and a transgender bartender stumble onto a Satanic cult's plan to sacrifice people all across LA (geomapped in the form of a pentagram, of course) and bring on Armageddon. As our intrepid, damaged heroes embark on a suicide mission to stop the crazy cultists, even they wonder if this is all really happening or if they're just plain crazy. Probably both. The latest project from Curt Pires (Dark Horse's upcoming Tomorrows, Boom!'s upcoming The Fiction) sees him teaming with art sensation Chris Peterson (Grindhouse, Boom!'s upcoming Broken World) for a story that cuts to the very center of Hollywood mythology and depravity itself.

Film Review: Ten

I first heard of “Ten”, when I caught the tail end of the film at the 2014 Terror Con Film Festival. The last part of the film got me very interested in wanting to see this film. Thankfully, its now out on DVD courtesy of Brink DVD.

The film is about twelve women who go to a mysterious mansion on an island with each thinking that they’ve gone there on some business. They all agree that something is odd, as they have come from all kinds of life and the house is filled with pictures and statues of pigs. To make matters worse, there is a storm coming to the island and the last boat has left. They try and make the best of it, but something or someone has them lined up for death.

Going into this film, I was expecting to enjoy this film like some average horror films that I’ve been reviewing lately. But I was surprised “Ten” turned to one of those hidden gems, as I like this film a lot.

What makes this film very good was its direction from directors Sophia Cacciola and Michael J. Epstein. Everything in the film looked great. From the way the scenes were shot by their cinematographer to how the frightening images were created, everything had a surreal and dark tone to it. It also helped that they shot this film at a location where it helped with the film’s dark tone. The other thing that the directors do very well is directing their cast. They did a great job making sure that the performances had some personality to them. It contributed to the flow of the film and kept me interested with the material considering all the film’s action takes place in one general area.

Speaking of the performances, I thought they were very good. The actresses did a very good job developing chemistry with each other. It helped make the film move at a good pace and kept me interested in the material. Alongside the chemistry, the film has very good performances from Jade Sylvan as the Renegade, Molly Devon as the real-estate investor and Porcelain Dalya as the coed. The screenplay written by Epstein, Cacciola, Sylvan and Sarah Van Zaranek was different and bold for a horror film of this nature. One of things that the writers did very well was with the way they handled the dialogue. It had a rhythm that keeps the film and story moving while focusing on the characters and situation at hand. It’s very rare to see this thing in this genre but it kept me interested in the characters and the story. The other thing that I liked about this was the way that the characters had personality to them. The writers did a great job making sure each of the characters were different from one another. It helped made the characters interesting as I was into the characters and the story. It’s something like this that a screenplay needs to make you interested in the story. This screenplay does that very well, as I was into this story from start to finish.

It’s very rare that I come across a horror film that is hidden gem like this film is. “Ten” is a different kind of horror that will keep you on edge with its suspense and twists. I highly recommend that you seek this film out on DVD and VOD.

Bloody and Chilling Stills for the Upcoming Alien Invasion Film "The Encounter"

Uncork'd Entertainment recently released stills for their upcoming DVD release of the alien invasion film "The Encounter". The film stars Clint James, Owen Conway and Megan Drust.

Plot Synopsis:

When Collin Bastrow is found in the forest, alone and afraid, he has a shocking story to tell. As he struggles to recount the events of the previous night his memories return in a series of horrific flashes of what became of his friends and fiancée. What started as a simple camping trip in the mountains of Northern Arizona quickly descended into an amazing and terrifying story that is truly out of this world. As the sole survivor of this deadly close encounter Collin must try and explain the unexplainable.

Film Review: Roadside

When I first heard about “Roadside”, I was interested considering that it looked like one of those thrillers that I would enjoy. It has a mysterious killer plus the trailer and story looked interesting enough to check this film out and review it.

The film follows Dan and Mindy Summers, a couple who on the road along a mountain highway that is desolate and quiet. They are forced to stop in the middle of the road when a tree falls on the road and blocks their way. Before Dan can get back inside his car, he finds out that a mysterious man hiding in the woods is threatens him and wife with a rifle that is aimed at them. This forces both Dan and Mindy to play his sadistic game in the freezing cold. They must find a way out of his dangerous game, before becoming his latest victims.

I was hoping that I would’ve liked “Roadside” considering that Eric England’s last film got a lot of praise. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. I couldn’t get into this film at all. This film was a flat out boring thriller from start to finish. It’s also possibly the reason why this film too so long in being released than his last film “Contacted”.

This was one of those films, where it was hard to sit through. The main reason for that was England’s direction. This felt very flat in all aspects. He doesn’t do a good job making sure the scenes stand out. The problem of that was the fact that his film takes place in one area for most of the film. Still, that is something that should’ve been corrected with the way he directs his cast. Instead, I was waiting for this film to end. Speaking of the performances, they weren’t good at all. England doesn’t make sure the performances had a certain level of intensity to them. This is supposed to be a suspense thriller, instead this felt like a drama. The reason for that was that I didn’t buy into the performances. He doesn’t make sure that they are different from each other. Instead, you have main performances that feel flat and going on one note. When that happens you’re not feeling intensity, you’re feeling bored.

The screenplay written by England was also bad as the direction. One of the things that makes this screenplay bad was the fact that the characters weren’t interesting. They weren’t giving much personality, as they felt flat. It made me not care about anything in this film. The villain felt like it was something out of the “Scream” films with his voice. The other thing that made me not like this screenplay was the fact that scenes had no tension. Most of the reason for that was that it stays at one place for a good chunk of the film. It didn’t do anything to make me feel frightening enough to be engaged with the story. This and the fact that the villain didn’t make things scary, it made this film very boring film to watch. It also didn’t help that the mysterious villain and the deaths were predictable. When that happens, you lose all suspense like this screenplay did.

I was really hoping that “Roadside” was going to be one of thrillers that keeps you interested and entertained, but I was wrong. Instead, this film is one of those films that you pass on bye when seeing it stranded on the side of the road.

Kal Penn Joins Wes Craven's Produced Thriller "The Girl in the Photographs"

 

Al-Ghanim Entertainment recently send us over casting news for the upcoming Wes Craven executive produced thriller "The Girl in the Photographs". Kal Penn of Harold and Kumar fame has been in the lead role.

Production for "The Girl in the Photographs" is set to start in Canada this month.

Al-Ghanim Entertainment (AGE), a specialty financing and production company founded by Kuwaiti industrialist Nawaf Alghanim, has announced today that Kal Penn has been cast in the original thriller THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS, which the company will both finance and produce. Horror legend Wes Craven (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, SCREAM franchise) is set to executive produce along with Alghanim, with Craven’s protégé Nick Simon is set to direct. AGE’s Andrea Chung (SEOUL SEARCHING) will produce alongside Thomas Mahoney (PARLOR), with a script written by Simon, Oz Perkins and Robert Morast.

The film will be lensed by the veteran cinematographer Dean Cundey (BACK TO THE FUTURE, JURASSIC PARK), which marks his return to horror after lensing the original HALLOWEEN films.

THE GIRL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS is scheduled to begin production in Canada this month. CAA is selling North American rights.

Colleen’s life isn’t going anywhere. The small town natural beauty is bored with her dead end job at a grocery store and is ready to distance herself from her abusive boyfriend. In the midst of her turmoil, a pair of deranged serial killers begins leaving her photos of their mutilated victims. Her chance to escape comes in the form of Peter Hemmings (Penn), a hipster celebrity photographer who has traveled back to his hometown of Spearfish, South Dakota with a pack of models, intent on copying the killers’ intense and unapologetic artistry and use it for an important ad campaign. When he learns Colleen is their muse, Peter resolves to make her his own and use her as the centerpiece of a photo campaign in Los Angeles. But before Colleen can leave her old life behind, she must contend with the desires of her murderous stalkers who have chosen her last night in town to execute their most provocative work to date.

Penn is best known for his comedic turn in the HAROLD AND KUMAR series and has most recently been seen in the teen thriller THE SISTERHOOD OF THE NIGHT, as well as a starring role on the CBS show “Battle Creek.”

Nick Simon, having written the thriller COLD COMES THE NIGHT and genre film THE PYRAMID, initially gained the attention of Craven with his first feature film after attending AFI entitled REMOVAL, which he both wrote and directed.

The Alghanim family, who own international conglomerates and have links to theaters in Kuwait, are backing the film as part of a slate for AGE, which is positioned to participate in various levels of filmed entertainment financing.

Penn is repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment. Simon is repped by Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler and Feldman.
