Lionsgate Lines Up "The Executioners" on DVD and VOD

Lionsgate recently released information for the upcoming DVD and VOD release of "The Executioners". The film stars Jemma Dallender (I Spit on your Grave 2), Natalie Burn (The Expendables 3, Criminal), Rachel Rosenstein (TV’s Shameless,” Jobs) and Justin Fischer (TV’s “American Crime”). No special features were announced at this time.

"The Executioners" hits retail on March 27th.

In this intense thriller, four female friends are held hostage in a lakefront mansion by unknown intruders. But as the women fight back, will they get a taste for violence?

"Death House" Release Pushed Back to March 2nd.

Hanover House recently released information about the change to the release of the anticipated "Death House". The film star Adrienne Barbeau, Barbara Crampton, Courtney Palm, Death House, Dee Wallice, Entertainment Factory, Kane Hodder, Lloyd Kaufman, Reviews, Sid Haig and Tony Todd.

"Death House" will hit theaters in limited release starting on March 2nd and expands on March 9th.

The record-breaking success of Disney / Marvel’s “BLACK PANTHER” this past weekend has spiked the box office and auditoriums of multiplexes across the nation. But the demand for hold-over screens for the next few weeks has put a crunch on smaller, specialty releases.

“DEATH HOUSE,” the highly anticipated thriller described as “the Expendables of Horror Films” by many horror-industry publications, is one of the releases left scrambling in the wake of last weekend’s box office success. The horror release from Hannover House, Inc. (OTC: HHSE), was slated for a key market launch this Friday, but has now rescheduled its plans for a roll-out over three weeks starting March 2.

“Obviously, we are very disappointed to find such pressure from the exhibitors to holdp-over multiple screens for ‘Black Panther,” said Eric Pakrinson, C.E.O. of Hannover House. “But we are happy for the success that this film is providing to theatre owners, and we know that the slight delay we are implementing for ‘Death House’ will ultimately pay big dividends for the film,” he concluded.

“DEATH HOUSE” will now launch on Friday, March 2nd with a special media event and public opening at the Regency Plant 16 in Van Nuys, California. The Friday night showing will feature nearly twenty cast members, along with principal crew and horror-industry media. Producer Rick Finkelstein will speak briefly before the first screening, and will dedicate the film’s launch to the memory of writer / actor Gunnar Hansen (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) who passed away in November, 2015 shortly after completing the first draft screenplay for “DEATH HOUSE.” The film will also open on March 2nd at the Stroud Mall in Stroudsburg, PA, which will feature a Sunday evening special event and presentation by director B. Harrison Smith.

Hannover House plans to expand the release of “DEATH HOUSE” to approximately 20 additional markets on March 9 and March 16, with further playdates to be based on audience response and box office performance. The home video and digital release are anticipated for July.

The movie Hell’s Kitty is about a Hollywood writer, who tries to find love in L.A. with a possessed and possessive pussycat named Angel, and features more horror icons than any movie in history. The film is scheduled for release on VOD 3/13 and DVD 3/27 in by Wild Eye Releasing and will also screen at the Chinese theater, February 22, at 9:30pm, as a fundraiser for FIXNATION.org to benefit cats.

Film Review "Inoperable"

Every time I hear one of my scream queens has a new film coming out, it’s almost a given that I want to check it out unless it looks very bad. When I first heard about Inoperable, I was interested in film immediately when I heard Danielle Harris was going to be involved because she is my top 3 scream queens of all time.

The film is about a woman (Danielle Harris) who wakes up to find out that she’s in an empty hospital as a hurricane approaches. She manages to find out that she stuck in a time loop as a strange force is trapping her in the same moment. Can she find a way out of the hospital before she is tapped there forever? The film also stars Jeff Denton and Katie Keene.

Going into “Inoperable”, I was hoping that this would be decent because Danielle Harris usually is one of those actresses that keeps you invested in whatever she’s in. Never did it would be as good as it was.

One of the things that this film does right is the direction. Director Christopher Lawrence Chapman does a very good job making sure that this had an intense feel. From the way that he approaches this film to how he approaches the action scenes, everything’s done in a way that it keeps the film moving along. If the action didn’t feel intense, then this would’ve felt flat and redundant. Thankfully, it was not the case as the scenes came off as intense and it kept me interested in the story. The other thing that Chapman does very well is to make sure the performances match the intense pace. He makes sure the performances work with the film’s tone. He does a great job making sure that his cast matches the intensity in their performances as in the screenplay. It helped enhance the film’s story as the scenes on screen come off as suspenseful.

The screenplay written by Chapman and Jeff Miller does a very good job making sure that the screenplay has an intense feel. Whether it’s the way they go for a “Groundhog Day” approach with the film’s story to how they set up the main character every time she wakes up in the hospital, everything is done to give you a frightening “Memento” type of feel. That’s the charm of this film as it kept me interested with the main character. The other thing the screenplay does well is some action scenes that have a punch to it. This is the type of film where you need scenes that keep you frightened and on edge. This screenplay has that. By having that, you get hooked into the film’s story as hoping for a good payoff. It does that very well as it had that expected result which fits the film’s story very well.

This was an entertaining film, as I was into the film’s “Groundhog Day” and the scenes had an edge that makes this worth watching especially if you’re a fan of Danielle Harris. With its intense pace and its good performances, “Inoperable” is one film that makes you afraid to go to the hospital.

Review: "Red Eye"

Man, 2018 starts off with a bang. First “Victor Crowley” was released on blu-ray and that film was great. Now there’s another film that recently was released that which didn’t have the level of fanfare as “Victor Crowley” but definitely deserves your attention. I’m talking about the shocking film “Red Eye”. This was a film that I was looking forward to since watching the first trailer for it as it left me wanting to see this for better or worse.

The film is about a director (Scott King) who is obsessed with the legend of Red Eye. He and some of his friends (Destinie Orndoff, Heather Dorff and Hayden Wilberger) go to the woods to film a documentary based of the red eye legend. They’re there to find out if the myth is true or just something made up. But filming takes an unexpected turn when there are stalked by a mad man. Is this the real legend stalking them or a copycat killer out to end their film? “Red Eye” also co-stars Jessica Cameron.

Once in a while, I’ll come across an indie horror film where it has a killer trailer then not hear about it again for a while because it takes a while for these films to get distribution. When it comes time to see it, you’re left disappointed or something is good but it was missing something. This wasn’t the case with this film. “Red Eye” is a very gory and shocking film that leaves you horrified.

First time director Tristan Clay does a very good job making sure directing is very good something that isn’t seen from many first time directors. From the dark look of the film to the way that he approaches filming the death scenes, everything works so well that it generates a horrific reaction as this is very gory and looks very professional from both a filming and special effects perspective for a first time film. The gore effects here are great. It helped makes sure the film disturbing considering the short running time. Another thing he does very well is making sure that the performances are very good. Whether it’s the way that he gets his cast to be interested in the material to making sure that there’s chemistry on onscreen, it made the performances very good where it shouldn’t been for a first time film.

The film also has some strong lead female performances from Destine Orndoff (who’s also co-wrote the film’s screenplay) and Heather Dorff. Each of the actresses both handled the dramatic aspects of the film very well as the dialogue was very serious and sometime disturbing. They both managed to make their characters stand out from the male characters with the way that they approached their characters. It added something to this film as it makes the first part of the film worth watching and not like other typical slashers when you’re waiting for the action to takes place.

The screenplay written by Clay and Orndoff was surprising different from what I expecting. Going into this, I thought that this was going to be a straight up slasher but I was surprised that there was a level of depth in the characters that I don’t see in many of these film. They did a great job making sure that you had backstory to these characters and accomplish it in a short time span. It made the characters interesting and gave the film its serious and disturbing tone as. The other thing that makes their screenplay very good is was the way they thought out the death scenes. They came off as very bloody and horrific. It’s hard to do that with most slashers as the deaths come off as cartoony but these had a shocking feel to them when you see them onscreen. It made those scenes a little cringe worthy to watch. When that happens, then you know that it worked effectively like in this film.

This was a great and disturbing film from start to finish as gorehounds will like this film. “Red Eye” which is a more serious, disturbing and gory film that shocks you. “Red Eye” is an intense and gory film that will make you question your passion as it earns The Horror Chamber’s Seal of Approval.
