Review: "She Wolf Rising"

When I first looked at the box art for “She Wolf Rising”, I was surprised that it didn’t have either Tiffany Shepis and Debbie Rochon’s name was nowhere on the front or back of the box. You would think their name would be on the front cover or at least in the back. Sadly, their names were nowhere to be found on this. Thankfully, I heard about this film way before its release to be interested enough in seeing it.

The film is about an obsessed fan (Timothy Mandala) who manages to meet his favorite screen queen (Tiffany Shepis) at a convenience store. She draws him into a world of dark underground filmmaking to find her producer’s lost footage. He begins to see her as a beautiful woman, but everything changes when he finds out her dark secret that she can transform into a wolf. Can he find a way to help her control her darkest secret before he become her next victim?

Even though the film sometimes moved slowly in the first half, I had a good time overall with “She Wolf Rising”. One of the reason why I had a good time with this film, was the good directing by writer/director Marc Leland. He does a good job making sure the film have some gruesome moments to go along with his screenplay. Whether it was the way that uses the gore to making the scenes come off as horrifying, everything had a crazy feel that kept me interested. The other thing that I liked about the direction was the way that he directs the performances. Leland does a very good job making sure the cast had good chemistry with each other as it made the characters and the story interesting. It helps the film get past its typical b-movie feel.

The film also has some very good performances from Shepis, Mandala and J. Edmund Ford as the director/producer who’s going crazy. The performances helped made me interested with the characters that they played and made this entertaining to watch.

The screenplay also written by Leland was also good given the type of film that he was going for. I liked how he makes sure the characters are interesting enough through various quirks that helps make some of the characters have. It made some of the slow parts of the screenplay entertaining when it had no right to be. The other thing that I liked about it was the fact that the film does a 180 and goes into a different direction. I won’t go into details but it helps with making the final act the best part of the film.

Should you try and seek this film out? Yes, if you’re a fan a b-movies with gore or like Tiffany Shepis’ films like I do. “She Wolf Rising” is a howling of a film with entertaining performances and good solid direction.

We recently recieved information that Gregory Lamberson's horror comedy "Killer Rack" will be having a free screening on November 7th. in Philadelphia. "Killer Rack" stars  Jessica Zwolak, Debbie Rochon, Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Thurber, and Roy Frumkes.

Retro Horror Comes to Philadelphia Video Store

Gregory Lamberson's horror comedy KILLER RACK will be screening on November 7, 2015 at CineMug 1607 S. Broad St. (Broad & Tasker). The free screening will begin at 8:00 pm, and the venue is BYOB with a $2 corkage fee.

CineMug is an up and coming destination for movie and coffee lovers in South Philly. A hybrid video rental and coffee shop, Cinemug features a curated selection of art/cult/foreign/horror movie rentals and new releases, locally roasted ReAnimator coffee, and light fare for breakfast and lunch.
KILLER RACK tells the outrageous story of Betty, a flat chested woman who hopes that she can turn her life around through breast enhancement surgery. The operation is a success, but there's one catch: Betty's new assets are Lovecraftian man-eating monsters hell-bent on world domination, and only Betty can stop them.

KILLER RACK evokes the classic late nights of Skinemax movies and anything goes, joke-a-minute comedy style of the Zucker Brothers. "Axe to Grind" Review

“Axe to Grind” is the latest film from director Matt Zettell, who’s last two films were both the shocking “The Cellar Door” and the entertaining “Resurrection County”. The film also stars Debbie Rochon, who has been a favorite of mine since seeing in films like “Terror Firmer” and “Tromeo and Juliet”. This made this film an easy must watch.

The film is about B horror movie legend Debbie Wilkins (Debbie Rochon) who is having relationship problems with her lover who also produces her films. Her world and her relationship stars to go downhill as she’s being replaced by a young scream queen. To make matters worse for Debbie, that same scream queen steals her role. Not willing to back down, she shows up on set to get rid all the cast and crew who have ruined her relationship and her career. Can anyone escape her wrath.

This film wasn’t “The Cellar Door” or “Resurrection County” but “Axe to Grind” was an entertaining film. One of thing that I liked about this film was Matt Zettell’s direction. He makes sure the direction moves at a good pace. Whether it’s the way that he films the death scenes to how some of the scenes were filmed, it brought out the blood and kept my interest in the story throughout. The other thing that Zettell does very well was to make sure the performances were good. I know that some of it felt like the stereotypical things that you see in a b-movie, but it works very well with what this film is trying to achieve. He also gets a very good performance from its lead Debbie Rochon, which also helps bolster this film.

The screenplay written by Scott C Sanford was good. One of the things that I liked about it was that it does a good job focusing on its main character. It made the character very interesting as it had some backstory about here along with why she’s going insane. This made everything in the story interesting as it kept my interest. The other thing that I liked was the fact that it wasn’t as predictable as I thought it was going to be. I literally thought the story was going to go one way with everything going one but I liked the turn this story takes towards the end. It made the film entertaining as it gave a level of shock value that you don’t see in most slasher film and it didn’t feel predictable like I thought it was going to be.

This film isn’t going to win any awards but I enjoyed this film. “Axe to Grind” is a film delivers on the blood and direction.
