Horror Actor Sean Whalen is Looking for Your Help in Funding His Upcoming Film "Crust"

The filmmakers of "Crust" recently send the horror chamber information for their Indiegogo campaign. The film is set to star Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs, Laid to Rest) Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Scout Taylor Compton (Rob Zombie's Halloween).

The filmmakers are looking to raise $60,000 by April 14th. This is a flexible campaign meaning the filmmakers will receive what they raised at the end of the campaign.

Horror star Sean Whalen has written and will star in a new horror comedy called CRUST. Also starring horror favorites Felissa Rose and Scout Taylor-Compton, CRUST is a throwback creature feature in the vein of Little Shop of Horrors, Gremlins, and Willard.

The story revolves around Vegas Winters (Whalen), a burned out former child star who now works in a laundromat and collects all the forgotten and lost socks left behind in the dryers. At the height of his depressed rut, Vegas cries into the pile of socks and CRUST is born. The only problem is, CRUST gets angry. Very angry. Now CRUST is a bloodthirsty sock monster that will do anything to defend and protect his creator!

With many more cast members yet to be announced, CRUST will boast practical effects and a story that is crazy, scary, disgusting, heartfelt, and hilarious and the filmmakers are asking horror fans for their help! The following is a message from writer and star Sean Whalen telling where the story came from and why you should get involved with the project on Indiegogo:

“Recently I went through some large personal changes that shook me to the core. I got a divorce, moved, and my father passed within the same year. I went through a year of heavy anxiety and depression. I worked hard in therapy and came out the other end, but I realized something. We ALL suffer sometimes. ALL OF US. Then I sat down with a good friend, Jim Wald and wrote a story: A story of a lonely depressed man, Vegas Winters, who has a sock monster named CRUST which grew from his tears. It's a horror comedy. It's fun, it's different, and it has a heart. The heart is CRUST. Because I believe we would all love to have a little monster that would do anything for us when we are in our darkest times.

We want to tell this story. We want you all to see it. So we are trying to raise the money for physical production to start. The independent movie world has changed and most films that remain creatively unique are made outside of the studio system. So, I have surrounded myself with people who are passionate and uplifting to help me. We hope you can help, too. Scare-A-Con Invades the New England Area

Lately I’ve been trying new things on this site. Another thing that I want to try on this site is writing some articles. Some of it will do with my personal or film related thoughts on things relating to horror, sci-fi, and exploration genres. Others like this one will be about event that yours truly is attending. With that said, I want to start this by talking about an upcoming trip that I’m about to take in two week, It has to do with a horror convention that I will be attending.

When I first heard Scare A Con was running in the New England area this summer, I was very happy because I wanted to go a horror convention so bad this year. Also, their past lineups in NY have been good enough to be interested in this.I’ve been to Comic Cons, a couple of Rocky Cons, but I’ve only been to horror convention once. That happened in 2014 when Terror Con ran in my home state of Rhode Island. I was hoping to go there this year but it’s not happening for the second year in a row. That’s when I got the idea to make the trip to Springfield, MA for Scare-A-Con: New England.

The event will be taking place from June 3rd to June 5th at the Mass Mutual Center. This will be the first time that they will be running a convention outside New York where they're based out of. The lineup is very good for the most part. Guest scheduled to be there include Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow), Adrianne Barbeau (Escape from New York, Creepshow), Margot Kidder (Black Christmas, The Amityville Horror), Derek Meres (Friday the 13th, Predators), P.J. Soles (Halloween, Carrie), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Jordan Ladd (Grindhouse, Cabin Fever), Film critic and Monstervision host Joe Bob Briggs and the mads from Mystery Science Theater 3000 Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff.

The convention will also have two 35th anniversary reunions and screenings for “Frankenhooker” and “Night of the Creep”. Guests for “Night of the Creep” includes Tom Akins (Halloween III, Escape from New York), Jason Lively (National Lampoon’s European Vacation), Jill Whitlow (Porky’s, Weird Science) and Steve Marshall. Guests for “Frankenhooker” include Patty Mullen and James Lorinz.

Besides that, the convention will also have screenings of classic horror films such as “The Devil’s Reject” “Creepshow” and “Halloween” (1978) along with the New England premieres of SRS Cinema's latest films “She Kills”, “Empire State of the Dead” and “Night of Something Strange”. There will also be Q&A Panels, Vendors, Parties and more.

Film Review: Within These Walls

When I first heard about "Within These Wall, I was interested in this film because the plot looked interesting and the fact that I liked James Tucker’s last two horror films, “Skinned Alive” and “Pink Eye”. Those film focused more on the blood and gore but this was completely different from those films.

The film is about woman (Kelsey Zukowski), who moves back to her childhood home after the death of her mother (Laura Godown-Mortensen). She’s hoping to find out answers to why her mother killed herself. Soon, she becomes haunted and held captive by a malevolent spirit who has invaded her life. The only way to escape the horror that awaits her is to find out why the truth about what happened to her mother and get rid of the spirit that exists in the house.

Going into this film, I was expecting “Within These Walls” would be a straight up horror film with the necessary psychological and supernatural elements that encompasses all supernatural films. But to my surprise, this film has very serious tone with chilling elements that make me horrified and entertained.

One of things that I liked about this was James Tucker’s direction. He does a good job making sure the film has a dark and creepy tone in the way that he approaches and directs. Whether it was the way the film looked to how he approaches the flashback and dreamlike sequences, everything had a gothic feel to it. It helped make the sequences on the page work on screen. Like his previous films to this film, he always does a great job making sure his horror films have a dark feel and look to them. The other thing that he does well is making sure the acting was very good. He does a very good job focusing on how he directs the performances especially with the lead actress. This was one of those films where the main performance is key to its success but Tucker does a great job directing his lead actress Kelsey Zukowski. He makes sure the performance fits the film’s dark tone throughout the whole film. It makes the film work, as I was interested with the material.

Speaking of Zukowski’s performance, it was one the best things in the film. She does a great job making sure her character doesn’t feel like the typical clichéd performance that you see other films of this nature. This could’ve gone down another way with another actor, but Zukowski makes sure that she brings a level of emotion to some of the film’s key scenes. This helped take the film to another level, which is needed for a film like this to work.  Zukowski does a great job making you interested in her character throughout the film is interesting and engaging as this looked like a difficult part to pull off given the nature of the role and the story, I hope this performance will help her get more roles in the future, as she was great in the film.

The screenplay written by Tucker and Zukowski does a very good job developing the main character and the film's backstory. They spend a good time focusing on past events with the main character’s mother that took place the house to how something is haunting and tormenting the film’s main character. By doing that, it helped with the progression of the story and its main character. It also helped make this film feel more of a serious horror film than other films of this nature. The other thing that makes this good was the fact the story had a creepy tone to it. The writers do a good job making sure the tone of the story was consistent throughout. Whether it’s the way the way the scenes were created to how it was executed on paper, everything had a dark gothic tone to them which made the supernatural scenes feel frightening and uneasy to watch on screen.

I highly suggest, you find this when it hits the film festival circuit. This is one of the better independent horror films out there. This film has a great lead performance from Kelsey Zukowski and very good directing from James Tucker. “Within These Walls” is a terrifying and creepy film that will shock you and keep you awake all night.

Sixgun Pictures and James Tucker Productions recently released stills for the upcoming film "Within These Walls". The film is the latest from director James Tucker and stars Kelsey Zukowski, Laura Godown-Mortensen, Marv Blauvelt and Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp).

Plot Synopsis:

A prisoner in her own home, a captive in her own body. Assaulted and trapped with no one to hear her cries for help…and knowing no one will believe her if they do.
