The Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival (“BITS”) is proud to announce its 2016 line-up, showing a record number of 33 films (9 features and 24 shorts) over 14 exciting programs. The Festival runs this year from November 24th to the 27h, 2016 at its new location at Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas in Toronto ON.

The Festival opens with the festival’s first ever documentary feature, 24X36: A MOVIE ABOUT MOVIE POSTERS which recently premiered at Fantastic Fest. The lineup includes three World Premiere features including Torin Langen’s silent horror anthology 3 DEAD TRICK OR TREATERS, the dark drama STREAMER by Jared Bratt and Vincent Pun, and Jason Armstrong’s long-awaited feature INSPIRATION, as well as Toronto premieres of Fantasia critical favourites THE UNSEEN and KIDNAP CAPITAL.

Also on Friday, November 25, BITS is hosting three educational panels covering essential topics for indie filmmakers in distribution, funding, and legal issues for movie making.

On Saturday, November 26, Thom Ernst, known for TVO’s Saturday Night at the Movies, is hosting “Making Movies the Canadian Way”, a panel with legends of Canadian horror, which will be filmed for the Bell Fibe TV-1.

The Festival also has the return of the fan-favourite BITS SHORT FILM SHOWCASE at primetime on Saturday night, Canadian indie giant Black Fawn Films close the Festival with the Toronto Premiere of THE SUBLET.

Festival passes are $85 and Industry Passes for the educational panels are $40. Individual tickets will be on sale soon.

Adrienne Barbeau to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from New York City Horror Film Festival

The New York City Horror Film Festival recently send us information that Adrienne Barbeau (Creepshow, Escape from New York, The Fog) will be receiving their Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be there to except her award on Saturday, November 12, after that evening’s program, at approximately 9:30 pm.

The New York City Horror Festival will be taking place on November 10-13th at the Cinépolis Chelsea Cinemas.

The 14th edition of the New York City Horror Film Festival celebrates the career of Adrienne Barbeau this November with the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Debuting in her first feature film in her then-husband John Carpenter’s THE FOG, Ms. Barbeau continued in George Romero’s CREEPSHOW, and other favorites including Carpenter’s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and Wes Craven’s SWAMP THING. The 2016 New York City Horror Film Festival opens Thursday, November 10, with Darren Lynn Bousman’s ABATTOIR, at 7:00 pm. Darren Lynn Bousman has been bringing the grue to gruesome over the past two decades with his blood-drenched filmography. From SAW II, III, and IV, through REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, THE DEVIL’S CARNIVAL, and now ABATTOIR, Bousman continues plowing through the gore. Caradog James’ first feature film, the BAFTA-winning LITTLE WHITE LIES, was also listed in Variety’s top 10 British Films of that year, and his second feature, THE MACHINE, premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. The Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival (PUFF) is now accepting feature length and short film submissions for 2016. The first year film festival aims to bring independent genre films to Center City Philadelphia.

Run by Fangoria writer, Madeleine Koestner  and longtime pop culture blogger, Alex Gardner, PUFF has been hosting monthly screenings at one of Philly's last video rental shops, CineMug. These screenings will culminate in a weekend-long festival that will feature a networking night, horror trivia, and plenty of exciting new features and shorts.
?Philadelphia has a lot of great retro events, but it lacks a dedicated genre film festival to showcase new and upcoming talent,? explains Koestner.  ?We are launching PUFF to give Philadelphia its own film festival to celebrate horror, sci-fi and bizarre movies that are not normally showcased at more mainstream events. We aim to grow PUFF into a multi-media event where people can come enjoy our great city while experiencing the best in new cinema.?
 
The festival will not only be focused on only delivering an alternative film festival to the local movie fanatics of Philadelphia, but also connecting upstart filmmakers with distribution outlets by working with local independent film distributors. The festival directors offer a combined ten years of film festival and horror journalism experience, working with Fangoria, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Another Hole in the Head, Buffalo Dreams, the Bay Area?s SiliCon, and more.
 
The festival directors also look forward to working with local filmmakers, artists and other venues to create a great festival where movie lovers can gather once a year to celebrate film and socialize.
 
?Eventually we hope to include the popular aspects of all Philly nightlife where filmmakers and attendees can watch great movies then get together to discuss the films, network and have a little fun,? said Gardner. ?Discovering great films will always be the focus, but after the credits, we want to make sure the filmmakers and badgeholders have a party to go to.?

Film synopsis: After a ballet school's prima ballerina (Mindy Robinson) gets shot at by beautifully psychotic fellow dancer, Nisa (Sydney Raye), the whole company's on edge. Classes continue, shrouded in fear, while Nisa remains at large. Her ditsy ballerina friend, Ria (Jessica Knopf), is being held in solitary confinement for suspicion of being involved. But Ria breaks out of the asylum, and after getting willingly drugged by Nisa, Ria is coerced into assisting her on a new mission, the ultimate assault (with a samurai sword and UZI machine gun from her father's secret room). All those who contributed to the many years of emotional and physical abuse and body shaming will be in harm's way. Meanwhile, a nerdy ballerina, Maren (Marla Martinez) starts writing a novel based on the events that transpired, deeply offending some for turning such sensitive material into a book, for young audiences. Soon, her and her sister, Saren (Rubi Garcia), realize every word being typed on Maren's typewriter is somehow altering real life. Will this strange and psychedelic parallel fantasy carry the sisters, along with anyone else, to a merciless blood-splattered doom?

The film stars Sydney Raye and Jessica Knopf, with Laura Amelia as the dance teacher, Delphine, and Julia Faye West as company co-owner. The film also features Mindy Robinson as the prima ballerina, with Walter Hochbrueckner, Vera R. Taylor, Rubi Garcia, Marla Martinez, Jacqueline Marie Alberto, Dawna Lee Heising, Dallas Chandler, Krystall Schott, Georgie Borchardt, Sky Patterson, Christopher Arias, Kimberly Cohen, Marylyn Brooks, Geo Sargent, Bob Evans and Garrett Morosky.

Shriekfest International Horror/Scifi Film Festival Announces First Batch of Films

The organizers from the Shriekfest International Horror/Scifi Film Festival recently announced its first batch of films. Films include "Granny of the Dead", "Landmine Goes Click", and "6:15".

Shriekfest takes place from October 1st - 4th in Los Angeles, CA.

GRANNY OF THE DEAD: Directed by Tudley James. In a small town unknowing and free from betrayal, an evil is looming to rewrite their tale. From deep within hell a curse rises up, to strike down the old and never give up. The elderly dead will smell blood in the air, eating flesh of the young and the world will despair.

6:15: Directed by Ben and Oliver Samuels. A zombie film with a new twist! This one was shot in first-person POV and in one continuous take! Taking place in real time, the film features effects from three Face/Off contestants, and the movie stars Montana Marks (Camp Dread), Amy Rutledge (The Neighbor), Matt Riker (Splinter Cell: Extinction), Rosebud Baker (Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys), and Bradford How (MuchMusic VJ).

Landmine Goes Click: Directed by Lavan Bakhia. Three American tourists are backpacking through the countryside of European Georgia when one of them steps on an armed landmine. That is minor compared to the nightmare the rest of the afternoon brings. Landmine stars Sterling Knight (“Melissa & Joey”), Spencer Locke (Resident Evil) and Dean Geyer (“Glee”).

Hunting: Directed by Dutch Marich. Inspired by the real life game of “geocaching”, this riveting, slow-burn psychological thriller stars Dani Colleen Michael Mena. She gets introduced to a real life treasure hunting game that propels her out of the safety of her apartment. After a series of unsettling events, Casey begins to question if there is a real menace lurking in her presence. In a dramatic twist, her suspicions soon manifest into a waking hell that puts her face to face with her worst nightmare.

Chatter: Directed by Matthew Solomon. While monitoring Internet traffic for the Department of Homeland Security, Agent Martin Takagi comes across the intimate video chats of a couple, temporarily living in different parts of the world, who begin to discover their new home is haunted. Starring Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Alison Haislip (Mega Shark vs. Kolossus,Freshwater) and Tohoru Masamune (Inception, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
