Review: "Bite School"
“Bite School” is a film that I’ve been looking forward to seeing since hearing about it. The film is about a rich playboy (James Balsamo), who is forced to go back to school to get his GED when his grandfather (Herschell Gordon Lewis) takes away his money and leaving him penniless. If matters weren’t even worse, he has to deal with a vampire cult who is bent on world domination and gang of girls who are out for money. Can he find a way to stop them all and get his GED before it’s too late. The film features appearances from Ron Jeremy (The Boondock Saints), Butch Patrick (The Munsters), John Dugan (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Sarah French (Terror Overload), Ophelia Rain (Return to Nuke Em high Vol 2) and Jasmine St Clair.
I had a fun time with “Bite School”. Writer/star/director James Balsamo does a very good job making sure that this is a fun film to watch. One of the things that he does well was to make sure the film moved along. Whether it was in the screenplay process to how make the scenes work onscreen, it was done in a way that there wasn’t too many dialogue scenes that slowed the film down. When it slowed down a bit, at least I got a little information on the characters so that I had a basic idea who they are. It made the characters interesting enough to make them work in the overall contest. Balasmo also does a good job with the way that he and his effects team handle the film’s effects. Even though they looked cheap, they are able to put out some effective gore effects. It helped with making some of the blood curling scenes work.
The other thing that I liked so much was the way the humor worked in the film. Whether it was the scenes that Balsamo directed or his performance, they were a good amount of laughs to find here. He makes sure in the screenwriting process makes sure the humor is timed well and funny enough that it makes you laugh and enjoy this. It allows the tone of the film to have a fun cheesy feel to it.
If you’re looking for a serious vampire film with plot, forget about it as you won’t find it here. But if you’re looking for a fun time with gory effects, out of control humor and beautiful women then “Bite School” is the film for you to spend your late night with.
