The Funko Pop Horror Show: Horror Properties I Would Like to Happen or See Expanded

Funko Pops has become an obsession of mine ever since I was turned on by a friend at Rhode Island Comic Con a couple of years ago. Since then, I go out of my way to collect them as I’ve have a bunch of them and I will even go out of my way to pay a little more for an out of print one. Just see this last weekend, when I picked up a Max with Michael Myers costume “Stanger Things” Funko at Scare-A-Con New England for $25. That’s how much I love Funkos.

It’s also got me thinking about what new lines or improvement to existing line that I would like see personally as I feel like they either deserve a funko pop release or adding to the existing line needs be to expanded. Here’s Four horror lines that funko should consider or expand.

Bringing Toxie to Funko

I’m a huge Troma fan and was thinking what great horror characters that deserve the funko treatment. Toxie was on the top of my list. The character is one that I always think about when I think about which horror characters would make a great funko pop. He’s an 80’s horror icon who was different from all his counterparts as he was hero who killed people with his super strength. Sure, he didn’t have the notoriety of a Freddy Kruger, Jason or Michael Myers but when you think 80’s and early 90’s B-movies, he’s the most popular out of the era and even had a kids show called “Toxic Crusaders” during that time. He definitely one those funko pops that I would pre-order immediately.

Expanding the Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Streets Pop lines

Before you say, why no Friday the 13th series in this, there a legal mess going with the franchise which may be while before you get anything related from the Friday the 13th series. I want an Uber Jason funko pop from Jason X so bad lol.

Why should there be more Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street pops? There are more characters in the series that deserve their own funko pop. It’s great to have Freddy Kruger and Michael Myers in funko pop form but what about the other characters.

For the Halloween series, I would like to see the main characters from the original film get one like Laurie Strode, Dr. Loomis, Annie, Lynda and Tommy and Jamie Lloyd for Halloween 4 and 5. If they can’t do that, then at least gives a line for the upcoming David Gordon Green film. If you can’t do that, can we get at least a Laurie Strode funko to go along with my Michael Myers funko pop.

For the Nightmare on Elm Street series, I would like to see the line to expanse to characters like Nancy and Lt. Thompson from the original, Kristen Parker, Kincaid, and Joey from Dream Warriors and Alice from 4 and 5. It would make the perfect Nightmare on Elm Street set plus it gives more to compliment my Freddy funko pop.

Expanding “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” Pop Line

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is one of my favorite horror films of all time and the main reason why I started to collect funko pops. When the initial run came out it was missing a few important character. How can you have a RHPS collection without Rocky. This was a surprise when that line came out. His name is in the title of the film. He should at least have a Funko pop made of him. Then you got Eddie, The Criminologist and Dr. Scott all vital characters in that film and all worth collecting.

It would be nice if they finish that line as all of them deserve funko pops and would make one awesome collection to go along with the other characters. If you can make ten million Walking Dead funko pops, then you can do the same for Rocky Horror.

I hope some of these ideas do eventually see the light of day. I would love having these funko pops as it would be kind of cool if this happen for all of us horror funko pop lovers.

Official Stills for the Upcoming VOD Release "The Claire Wizard Thesis"

Terror Films recently send the horror chamber stills for their upcoming release "The Claire Wizard Thesis". The film stars  lex Dona, James Mitry, Rosel Marel, Krystal Lencova and Tim Love.

"The Clarie Wizard Thesis" hits VOD on June 29th.

For more information on this film, you can visit the film's official website at:http://www.theclairewizardthesisfilm.com.

Press Release:

In 1999, The Blair Witch Project was released and went on to gross almost 250 million dollars worldwide on a mere $60,000 budget (IMDB). Now, almost 20 years later, writer, director, actor, producer, editor and self-proclaimed “hit maker” Jacob Lewis teams with TERROR FILMS to bring you the laziest excuse for a found footage film you will ever bear witness too. We bring you THE CLAIRE WIZARD THESIS!

The brainchild of Australian based actor and writer Ishak Issa, THE CLAIRE WIZARD THESIS is a comedy horror spoof. The film follows a group of actors and crew into the Australian outback, led by aspiring filmmaker and ego-maniac Jacob Lewis. Lewis’ plan is to make his own version of the 1999 hit, with dreams of becoming the next big Hollywood director. There is only one problem - he has no idea what he’s doing and neither does any of the cast or crew.

The film hosts an up-and-coming cast. The film stars Alex Dona as the pompous Jacob along with James Mitry as Jacob’s pissed off brother. His brother is shooting the behind-the-scenes footage. Meanwhile, Rose Marel as Lucy is literally doing 10 crew jobs. As well, Tim Love is the overly eager show tunes singing extra and model and influencer Krystal Lenkova (January 2016 Playmate of the Month) is the diva leading lady. The cast also features Fury Glanville, Will Averill, Georgina Neville, Shaun Robert Foley and Issa. Issa is a model, who can barely speak English, let alone act. This title marks Issa’s directorial feature film debut.

The film was nominated for several awards. THE CLAIRE WiZARD THESIS was nominated for a Jury Award for “Best Screenplay,” as well as “Best Editing” and “Best Actor (Alex Dona).” The film went onto win the Jury Award for “Best Foreign Feature” at the Macabre Faire Film Festival. Jacob Lewis claims the film was also accepted into Sundance, TIFF, Berlin, Cannes, Tribeca and the SXSW Film Festivals? However, TERROR FILMS was unable to verify these claims. Found footage director Lewis has stated: “as I’m sure my cast and crew would agree, I’m a genius and I expect The Claire Wizard Thesis will be both a financial and critical hit. I look forward to seeing my 100% Fresh Tomatometer Score on Rotten Tomatoes!”

Although a difficult decision due to Lewis’ glowing yet grossly misguided hype of the film's pre-ordained success, TERROR FILMS opted to forego a 4000 screen theatrical release. Instead, the film will release across digital platforms on June 29th, 2018. The film will become available on: Amazon Prime, iTunes, VUDU and Tubi TV in multiple countries. This release will be followed by another on the Australian based platform OZFlix with additional platforms and a DVD release set for a later date.

Scaring Up Some Fun: A Look Back at Scare-A-Con: New England 2018

It’s been a couple of days since I came home from Scare-A-Con: New England which took place in Framingham, MA. This was also the first year that I decided to do just the weekend pass instead of doing VIP like I always do for conventions. This convention was another fun time as it’s been three years in a row that I’ve enjoyed Scare-A-Con a lot.

One of the things that I liked about this convention was the fact that I didn’t feel like I was at Cherry Hill, NJ all over again as I still haven’t gotten over that convention. I would like to thank J.V. Johnson, his staff and the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center for making sure that the convention and floor layout went off without a hitch. I liked how the convention floor was planned especially the big ballroom with Elvira in one corner, Doug Bradley in the other corner and vendors in between. This made those two lines against the wall in the corners move smoothly without interference or feeling like it was crowded. The hallways in the general area didn’t feel too claustrophobic as well as I could move easy even though it was busy on Saturday which made it nice as I want this con to continue operating in this area.

Another thing that I liked was the fact that there were hotel security and volunteers doing their job in getting the people who didn’t belong there. It made it feel more welcoming as sometimes with conventions that use bracelets, there is a chance that people can sneak in. That was a major problem in New Jersey back in March but not here as the convention people and hotel staff were prepared which made everything run smoothly.

Everyone was friendly. From the guests to the vendors and the hotel staff, it was a fun time as there were no major incidents. I would go back there and stay at that hotel and go to this convention at this hotel if this is going to be a regular venue for Scare-A-Con. The hotel got what the convention organizers were going for as the atmosphere inside the hotel lobby and halls were great. The people knew what they were doing which was a major relief compared to the Monster Mania 39 debacle where I rarely saw a volunteer or hotel security around.

If there was one problem that I had with this, it was the fact they didn’t do a good job with the way that they booked the panel rooms. They had a large room with the Middlesex Room and booked it with films and themed panel instead of putting the celebs panels in the large room. Only a few celeb panels like Elvira and Jason Lively were held in that room. I wished all of the celeb panels were held in that room. The room they used for the celebs was very small and tight. It’s the only complaint I had with this convention and when I addressed on their Facebook page, they listened to my criticism.

This is what every promoter should be doing post-convention instead of taking it out on the people who spent their hard earned money and driving three or four hours to be at your show and then criticize you about your bad convention that you the promoter ban them on social media. I want to thank J.V. Johnson and his social media team for taking the time to listen and I have confidence that they will fix this for next year as this is the only show where I feel that the show runner wants everyone to be happy and have a good time.

There was also a positive about the panels. I liked the idea of having people from The Dorkening, Dark Discussions and Shock Treatment podcasts running the panels as compared to the first two years of the convention in New England where it was just some random people running the panels. It gives it more of a local feel and I also thought they had more personality compared to the people running the panels the first two years. I hope they are allowed to do this again next year.

Would I go back to this convention next year? Hell yes, as this is the only horror convention that I would put my reputation on the line for. This is something that I cannot say for Rock and Shock and Rhode Island Comic Con that I regular attend. This was a fun weekend from the moment I walked right into the hotel until I left on Sunday.

Film Review: "Exposure"

It’s been a day since I got back from Scare-A-Con: New England. The convention review will be up either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week as I want to talk about "Exposure", the film that headlined the film portion of the convention first.

When I first heard that “Exposure” was going to make its premiere at Scare-A-Con: New England, I was excited about this. First, this was a premiere which are things that I love going to and it features one of my favorite cult actresses Lynn Lowry who I also got a chance to meet this past weekend. The film is about a couple (Carman Anello, Owen Lawless) who move to the woods to work on their problems that have been plaguing them. Soon, something mysteriously happens as they discover something sinister is lurking and its turning people into something hideous. Now, they are forced to fight this thing and survive while trying to save whatever is left in their relationship.

One of the things that I like to usually do at conventions is walk the floor, catch up with friends that I usually only see at conventions and check out the film program. I’ve manage to find some really good films there that have eventually made it to my DVD and Blu-Ray collection. Films like the convention documentary “Fantasm” directed by Kyle Kuchta, co-director of the upcoming documentary “Survival of the Film Freaks” and the clown vampire horror comedy “The Night Watchmen” which I saw at RI Comic Con back in November of last year. Both of those films are in my collection as they were great finds. I can’t wait to add “Exposure” to the collection after its film festival run as I enjoyed this a lot.

One of the things that I liked about this film was Austin Snell’s direction. and the way that he shoots this film. He does a very good job making sure he keeps the film moving. Whether it’s the way that he directs the dialogue scenes to how he approaches the last third of the film, everything is done in a way that it keeps you interested and invested with the story. This film is one of those slow burn films where it’s confined to one area and can be tough to sit through but he manages to make sure he directs his actors in a way that made me interested in the story and the main characters. The other thing that I liked was the way that Snell shoots this film. He does a great job capturing the area as its looks beautiful. The look of it had the feel of a late 70’s, early 80’s horror film. It helped makes the film standout and look professional.

The performances here were very good. Going into this film, my main reason for watching this was Lynn Lowry being in it. After watching this, my major takeaway of the film was the performances from the film’s leads Carmen Anello and Owen Lawless. Both of them did a great job with the way they approached their characters as the both of them had great chemistry with each other as you could buy their characters as a couple. It’s what made this work as a whole for me as I liked their performances a lot. When that happens in an independent horror film, then you’ve most likely made one hell of a film because it’s more about the film and its main stars than the big horror names you put in it.

The screenplay written by Snells and Jake Jackson was a good one. One of the things that I thought was done very well was the fact they do a very good job on focusing and developing the relationship between the two characters during the course of the film. It made me become interested in those characters and it made me forget that Lynn Lowry was in this film and had a small role. The other thing that I liked about it was the way the writers build up the suspense. They do that by spending the time making sure you’re getting to know the couple while slowly building up the tension that each character is going through. By doing that, it makes the action and campiness work very well in the final act that you come out of this film enjoying it.

I urge to check this film out when it’s playing at a film festival near you as this a fun and entertaining film. With its good direction and excellent performances, “Exposure” will creep you out as you’re having a good time.

The next screening for “Exposure” will take place on July 14th at the Crypticon: Kansas City Horror Convention and Film Festival in St. Joseph, MO. The screening will take place at 2:15 CDT. Can’t make it there, the film will screen in Lawrence, KS on July 21st as part of the Lawrence Field Day Fest in Lawrence, KS at 3:45 CDT.

For more information on this film, you can visit the film’s Facebook page at : https://www.facebook.com/exposurethefilm.

2018 Scare-A-Con: New England Preview

It’s that time of the year where the convention season goes into high gear will all these conventions popping up. Scare-A-Con: New England will be convention number 3 for me this year as I was a part of the disaster known as Monster Mania 39 and also attended a non-horror related convention which I had a good time.

A brief history about Scare-A-Con: New England. This will be the third year in a row that I will be going to that convention and I have to say that this is my favorite convention that I look forward to every year. The first two years of the convention took place in Springfield, MA. This year, it’s moving to a different location. The convention will be taking place on June 16th and 17th at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Framingham, MA.

This year’s headliners are Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson and Holliston star and Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snyder. Other guests include Danny Lloyd (The Shining), Doug Bradley (Hellrasier), Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead), Amy Steel (Friday the 13th: Part 2), David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet), Lynn Lowery (Shivers) and Scare-A-Con Ambassadors Mark Patton (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2), Jason Lively (Night of the Creeps), Ricky Dean Logan (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) and Author Mike Aloisi (The Killer and I).

The film program for Scare-A-Con: New England is headlined by the premiere of the creature feature “Exposure” starring Lynn Lowry on Saturday night at 7pm. Other films that are a part of the film program includes "4/20 Massacre" and "Circus of the Dammed" also headline. The film program will also include classic films starring some of guests at this convention as well.

The events schedule is packed with panels from most of the guests including Tom Savini, Doug Bradley, Sean Whalen, Danny Lloyd, Jason Lively, David Naughton, Amy Steel and Dee Snider depending on his availability.

There will also be various themed panels that will be happening during the course of the weekend as well. Panels include Horror Podcasting 101, Horror Writing 101, Indie Filmmaking 101 with filmmakers Mike Neel & Garo Nigoghossian , Horror Movie Makeup Roundup, Becoming a Horror Author, Scream Queens Panel with Lynn Lowry and Kelli Maroney, another Indie Film Making panel, Freddy’s Victims with Mark Patton and Ricky Dean Logan, and Horror Merchandising.

The Dorkening will also have a couple of events too. First, there will be a live podcast broadcast on Sunday at 10 am in which I will also be a part of for better or worse. LOL. Also, there will be Wolfman Trivia at 1pm. Preregistration will be required to participate .

You want parties, there will be 2 of them. First at 8pm is the VIP party at the Ashland Room. The only way that you get in is you must have a VIP Pass then at 10:30 PM  the Scare-A-Con 1980’s Monster Party for all admission holders with 80’s hair band Flux Capacitor.

Finally, there will be two costume contests. A costume contest for adults on Saturday at 3:30 pm and for the children on Sunday at 1pm to wrap things up. For the complete list of times, you can visit the schedule page at: http://www.scareacon.con/schedule-ne

I will be posting pics and updates over at the horror chamber’s twitter page at www.twitter.com/HorrorChamber1 and Instagram @thehorrorchamber. Please give both those pages a like as that's where my coverage will be this weekend. Also, I'll be back next week with my thoughts on Scare-A-Con:New England.

Out of all the con I go to, Scare-A Con: New England is the most fun convention out of all of them. There is no reason for you not be there this weekend, if you’re in the New England area and love horror as it’s going to be one hell of a time. For more information on Scare-A-Con, you can goto: http://www.scareacon.com.

Scare A Con New England 2018 Preview: What Scare-A-Con: New England Means to Me

First off before I begin, sorry for no Scare-A-Con post yesterday, as I’ve pretty busy with other things and I’ve been tired which has prevented me from posting this week. But enough with that as I’m here to write what has the convention meant to me as this is going to be more of a personal article than opinionated even though there is some opinions here.

We’re two weeks away from the upcoming Scare-A-Con New England convention in Framingham, MA. Personally, I cannot wait for this convention as this I want to get the bad taste of Monster Mania 39 out of my mouth as that was one of the worst experiences ever. Enough with that, I’m telling you why I hold Scare-A-Con dear to my heart and why I’m promoting here.

It’s one of those conventions where the guests have a welcoming and nice attitude. I’ve been to conventions where guests act rude, don’t look like they want to be there or leave a day early when they were supposed to there for the entire convention. The two previous Scare-A-Con’s has brought out some of the nicest guests that you’ll ever meet and hang out. Some of the nicest people that I came across at that convention include Sean Whalen, Felissa Rose, Jordan Ladd, Tony Todd, Genoveva Rossi, Russel Streiner and Linnea Quigley to name a few. That is make feel welcome like it has for me. You also don’t hear negative stories or gossip like some guest took a two hour lunch break or guests taking a lunch break in the middle of a photo op that screws up all the photo ops times. You don’t that at Scare-A Con as the guests want to be there and have a fun time with you. It makes the experience more fun and leaves you feeling happy that you want to come back next year.

Also, I’ve made a lot of friends from this convention than any other area convention that I go regularly. Usually when I’m at a Rock and Shock or RI Comic Con, it’s hard to make connections as it’s either busy with the huge convention space and has a gap between the lack of activity and the party or lack of a social gathering event. Scare-A-Con has none of those problems as they always have something going on even when the convention hall closes. Whether it’s a screening, Rocky Horror shadowcast or parties. The fun never stops on the Saturday portion. I’ve made friends over the last two cons whether it’s from the podcasts Dark Discussions and The Dorkening or meeting congoers. It’s the only convention in the New England area in my opinion where you can have a fun weekend getaway and make some new friends in the process.

It’s conventions like Scare-A-Con: New England that makes me proud in my geekdom. It’s always been fun and one of the events that I look forward to. This is one of those conventions where I recommend supporting as they take the time to put out a fan friendly lineup that you’ll a good time. I can’t wait to be in Framingham, MA in two weeks for its third year at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center.
